The Taliban order Afghan universities to prohibit women access to selectivity

MADRID, 28 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Taliban Ministry for Higher Education has ordered the country's universities, both public and private, to prohibit students from accessing this year's selectivity test, according to a statement collected this Saturday by the Tolo News chain.

In the note, the Taliban announce legal measures under the Islamic penal code against any institution that refuses to adopt this decision with a view to holding the tests, at the end of next month.

This new order amplifies the initial restriction of the Taliban authorities, announced in December, which strictly prohibited women's access to university higher education until further notice, in a decision that earned the fundamentalist movement a wave of international criticism.

The Taliban, despite the multiple meetings held with international delegates, including the United Nations, and the statements to the contrary made by institutions such as the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have called for respect for their decision, adhered to the traditional principles of Islamic law.
