The Peruvian Ombudsman's Office has confirmed this Sunday the death of one of the protesters during the protests that have taken place this day on Abacanay avenue, in the center of Lima, Peru.

The protests have mostly taken place on Nicolás de Piérola and Abancay avenues and on Carabaya street, in the center of Lima, and there have been several clashes between the Police and the protesters, which has caused the death of a citizen. The death has been confirmed by the Grau Emergency Hospital.

A contingent of protesters has gathered tonight on Abcanay avenue, near the university area, a road through which they intended to advance towards the headquarters of the Congress, but their passage has been blocked by police officers, which has generated several clashes. , has collected the Peruvian agency Andina.

The authorities have used tear gas to disperse the protesters while some of them have defended themselves by throwing stones and fireworks.

As reported by the Peruvian Ombudsman's Office, they are currently monitoring the Guillermo Almenara Hospital, where another seriously injured person remains, as well as other hospitals in the city of Lima that have received several injured police officers.

According to the Peruvian newspaper 'La República', several attacks against journalists have also taken place during the protests in the center of Lima.

"We strongly condemn the attacks on journalists during the coverage of the protests. We urge the Peruvian Police Inspectorate to carry out an exhaustive investigation, determine responsibilities and sanctions," the Ombudsman has shared in this regard.

In addition, a group of people have been arrested and referred to the Cotabambas police station for their alleged participation in the riots and attacks on the Police.

These protests take place within the framework of social discontent over the presidency of Dina Boluarte, for which they call for her immediate resignation, the dissolution of Congress and the urgent call for presidential elections. Since then, more than 60 people have lost their lives in riots between protesters and security forces.

During the day yesterday, the vote took place in Congress that would approve or not the mentioned advance of the elections, but the constitutional reform was blocked by 45 votes in favor, 65 votes against and 2 abstentions.
