The Government of Peru has presented a bill to Congress late this Wednesday to call general elections on October 8, 2023, as the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, had warned, after the new failed attempt by the Andean Parliament to agree on the electoral advance.

"I regret that Congress has not reached the necessary consensus to advance the elections. As I announced in the last message to the nation, we will immediately present the bill so that Peruvians can democratically elect their authorities in 2023," he asserted. the Peruvian president in a message released by the Presidency of Peru.

In this sense, Boluarte has urged Congress to review the legislative initiative with "the sense of responsibility and urgency that the country demands."

Thus, the Peruvian Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, has announced that the bill is already on the table in Congress, according to the RPP radio station.

"A few moments ago we have entered into the table of parts of Congress a bill that by constitutional mandate has the character of urgent and priority a legislative initiative in which we are proposing the advancement of general elections for the year 2023", Otárola has expressed to outside the Government Palace.

The legislative proposal, approved in the Council of Ministers, provides that the President of the Republic call general elections to elect the next head of State, as well as the congressmen, on October 8, 2023.

In addition, the initiative incorporates four special transitory provisions such as that Boluarte's term ends on December 31, 2023 or that the congressmen would finish their representation on December 29, 2023.

The decision of the Peruvian Executive takes place hours after the Peruvian Congress has rejected the text presented by the president of the Constitution Commission, Hernando Guerra García, to advance the general elections to 2023, after which the session has been suspended and rescheduled. for this Thursday.

Peru is plunged into a deep political crisis after the dismissal of Castillo, who announced on December 7 the dissolution of the Andean Parliament and the establishment of an emergency government.

After the arrest of the former president, tens of thousands of people have come out to protest in various parts of the country to demand the resignation of Boluarte, the dissolution of Congress and the urgent call for presidential elections. More than 60 people have lost their lives in the riots between protesters and security forces.
