The armies of Belarus and Russia start a "training session" of their joint regional forces

MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Russia and Belarus have started a "joint training session" of their joint regional forces on Tuesday ahead of some maneuvers that both armies will hold in Russia in September, as announced by the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, amid tensions over the invasion from Ukraine.

"The Belarusian Armed Forces have started a joint training session of the Joint Command of regional groups today," he said in a statement published through his Telegram account, in which he stressed that "for a week, representatives of The military departments of both states will work on joint planning issues on the use of troops based on the experience in armed conflicts in recent years."

Thus, he stressed that "these complex measures of joint operational training are intended to increase the compatibility between the military command and control organizations of the two states as a phase of the preparations for the Union Shield 2023 joint maneuvers, which will be held in September 2023 on the territory of Russia".

Moscow and Minsk want to improve the coordination of their respective forces, although both parties have rejected that the Belarusian Army is going to be directly involved in the offensive on Ukraine, despite the fact that the territory of Belarus has already served as a base for operations. Ukraine, in fact, considers Belarus one more party in the conflict and fears that Minsk is looking for some kind of excuse to intervene openly.
