Taliban order NGOs to suspend women's employment contracts

MADRID, 24 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ministry of Economy of the Taliban authority in Afghanistan has issued a decree this Saturday in which it orders all NGOs, whether national or international, to suspend the employment contracts of women until further notice.

In the decree, collected by TOLO News, the Economy portfolio also warns that any organization that does not comply with this guideline, will be able to see their license to operate in the country suspended.

The aforementioned television channel has contacted Abdulramán Habib, a spokesman for the Ministry of Economy, who has confirmed the news, as detailed by TOLO News on its official profile on the social network Twitter.

The reason given by the Taliban authorities is the non-compliance by the employees of the Government regulations regarding the hijab, the veil that women must wear in public, reports the DPA agency.

This measure occurs in the same week that the Ministry of Education prohibited access to university education for women, also alleging non-compliance with the dress code, among other alleged violations of the law.

The decision has soon received criticism from the international community, including much of the Islamic world. The Taliban announced on Friday the opening of an internal debate to discuss these criticisms received.
