Serbia describes Germany's statements against the deployment of troops in Kosovo as "absurd"

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, criticized Germany this Sunday for positioning itself against the deployment of the Serbian Army to protect the population of northern Kosovo, describing the German statements as "absurd".

The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, had described as "unacceptable" the initiative announced the day before by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who is obliged to request permission from the NATO mission, KFOR, for any deployment. of soldiers in the independent Kosovo, scene this weekend of a rise in tensions.

After this, Brnabic recalled that in the last announcement by the foreign ministers of the G7 countries, which was held in May 2022, to resolve various crises in the world, the strict implementation of the respective Council resolutions was established. United Nations Security.

"Now, surprisingly, the German Foreign Ministry says explicitly that the resolution (...) stipulating that Serbia has the right to request the return of a certain number of its security forces to Kosovo must be ignored because it is 'unacceptable,'" he said. quoting the words of the German diplomat.

In this sense, the Serbian 'premier' has criticized the criteria by which the West chooses which resolutions must be respected, after Baerbock's statements.

"In terms of International Law and stability, on what criteria do you base yourself to decide which UN resolution should be respected, and which should be ignored," he snapped.

"For example, in the case of Libya (...) it must be respected, but in the case of Serbia (...) it must be ignored? An impressive level of absurdity," Brnabic criticized.

Thus, it has requested that International Law and United Nations resolutions be respected. "What the Serbs in Kosovo yearn for is peace and stability. We would not mind seeing some respect for International Law, the UN Charter, the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council...", he indicated.

"One last thing: there would be no tensions that should be reduced if (Kosovar Prime Minister Albin) Kurti respected the agreements and did not unilaterally breach them," he concluded.

Northern Kosovo is now in the midst of an institutional vacuum after the boycott of the Kosovo Serb mayoralties and the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has announced the postponement of the local elections in the face of the chaotic political scenario.

To this we must add attempts at violence such as the one that occurred last night against a patrol of the EU civil mission, EULEX, with no victims to lament.
