Scholz mourns the death of Benedict XVI, an "intelligent theologian"

MADRID, 31 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz lamented this Saturday the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, whom he described as an "intelligent theologian" with a "controversial personality."

"For many, not only in this country, he was a special leader for the Church," the German president said on his Twitter account. "The world has lost a formative figure for the Catholic Church", he has maintained before transferring "his thoughts of him" to Pope Francis.

The one who was pontiff between April 2005 and February 2013 has died this Saturday morning at the age of 95, as confirmed by the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

His state of health had deteriorated last Wednesday, as Pope Francis announced then, who realized that he was "very ill."
