Russia expels Estonian ambassador and lowers diplomatic relations to chargé d'affaires level

MADRID, 23 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Government has announced on Monday the expulsion of the Estonian ambassador and has lowered the level of diplomatic relations with Tallinn, which it leaves at the level of business managers, due to the "hostile actions" of the Estonian authorities.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has indicated in a statement that the Estonian ambassador in Moscow has been summoned to convey a "firm protest" over the decision to "radically reduce the size of the Russian Embassy in Tallinn" and has added that the ambassador "must leave Russia before February 7".

"The Estonian leadership has deliberately destroyed the entire range of relations with Russia in recent years. Russophobia and the cultivation of hostility towards our country have been elevated to the rank of state policy by Tallinn," he denounced.

For this reason, he stressed that "all responsibility for the development of the situation in relations between Russia and Estonia falls entirely on the Estonian side." "We will continue to react to hostile steps by the Estonian leadership," she stressed.
