Poland insists on placing the Patriot anti-missile system on the border with Ukraine

MADRID, 30 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Polish Defense Minister, Mariusz Blaszczak, defended this Wednesday before the Assembly the placement of the Patriot anti-missile system on the western border of Ukraine as the best way to protect Polish territory, where two Ukrainian missiles recently hit, killing two people.

"To effectively protect eastern Poland, it would be better if Patriot missiles were placed in western Ukraine. This is the best defense for our country from a military point of view," Blaschak told the PAP agency.

For his part, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has indicated that the deployment of the Patriot system in Ukraine is possible, but the final decision on where they should be placed will depend on Germany.

Meanwhile, Germany has confirmed that the offer to deliver this US-made anti-missile system to Poland to protect Polish airspace after Russian offensives on the border with Ukraine remains open.

"Our proposal to the Polish government to defend its own country has not been removed from the agenda," German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

Scholz has also made it known that they have sent new supplies to equip the Gepard anti-aircraft tanks that they have sent to Ukraine in recent months to help them repel the bombardments of the Russian forces.

In this sense, Scholz has highlighted the expressions of gratitude offered by the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, "for the comprehensive support of Germany in financial and humanitarian terms", as well as in the field of weapons.
