More than a hundred dead and 2.4 million affected by the storm in the Philippines

MANILA, 1 Nov. (DPA/EP) -

At least 110 people have died and more than 2.4 million have been affected by the passage of tropical storm 'Nalgae' through the Philippines, which has caused severe flooding and landslides.

By province, Maguindanao has been the most affected, since at least 51 fatalities correspond to this southern region. In addition, more than a hundred homes have been destroyed by the storm, according to the national disaster agency.

Throughout the country, there are more than thirty missing persons, 16 of them in Maguindanao. The authorities have recognized that, at this point, it is unlikely to find any survivors in the areas that have suffered the most damage since 'Nalgae' made landfall on Saturday.

'Nalgae' has already gone, but the Philippines is now preparing for a new storm that will enter the east coast and that will cause more rains, although meteorologists predict that this second phenomenon, 'Banyan', will degrade to a tropical depression. The archipelago experiences an average of 20 tropical cyclones each year.
