Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to act "impartially" when carrying out its work in Ukraine and has stressed that Moscow respects the Geneva Conventions.

During a meeting with the president of the ICRC, Mirjana Soljaric, Lavrov thus stated that he "believes in the organization's willingness to work impartially using its humanitarian mandate", an issue that he described as "key to constructive cooperation". .

In this sense, he has pointed out that Russia "respects the ICRC's mandate and appreciates its depoliticized nature" and has accused Ukraine of "violating International Law", something that "is well documented". "We do take all precautions to protect civilians and infrastructure," she asserted, according to the TASS news agency.

In addition, he stressed that Moscow's collaboration with the ICRC has been "fluid" in recent years and has highlighted its cooperation in countries such as Syria and Afghanistan or regions such as Nagorno-Karabakh.

For his part, Spoljaric has indicated that he respects the principles of neutrality in his work. "It is very important to me that the communication channels between my organization and Russia remain open and constructive. I can also assure you that I will adhere to the principles of neutrality and independence, and will respect confidentiality where necessary to comply with these principles," has pointed out.
