Georgian Government Withdraws Controversial Foreign Agents Bill After Wave of Protests

MADRID, 9 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The government parties Georgian Dream and Power of the People have announced early Thursday the withdrawal of a controversial bill on foreign agents that has caused a strong wave of protests in the country throughout this week.

After several days of demonstrations and riots against this legislation, which the opposition considers "Russian cut", the promoters of the measure have proceeded to withdraw it despite the fact that the draft had already obtained the first approval from the Chamber.

Thus, after a series of internal consultations, both formations have decided to proceed with the withdrawal of the bill given "the differences caused within society", as they have explained in a statement.
