Congressman Paul Gosar invites Zelensky and Putin to Arizona to push for peace talks

MADRID, 28 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Paul Gosar, Republican congressman for the state of Arizona, has invited Volodimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, president of Ukraine and Russia, respectively, to the US city of Phoenix to promote peace talks.

The congressman has urged, through a letter, the leaders of both countries to resolve their differences in Arizona to avoid more deaths and destruction, according to the Timcast media.

"I am writing to each of you ... with an invitation to come to Phoenix, Arizona for peace talks. I am not a diplomat. Just a member of the US Congress. But I have seen enough death and destruction in your countries", reads the letter sent by Gosar.

"It is unsustainable. I have gone from being concerned about the lack of peace efforts to feeling compelled to act," he explained.

The American politician has recalled the destruction caused by the conflict, citing the deaths, the numbers of displaced persons and destroyed infrastructure.

However, he has clarified that the escalation of arms and military rhetoric puts "not only the citizens of their countries, but the entire world" at risk.

"From fighting over active nuclear power infrastructure, to outright indications or statements that unconventional military responses are on the table, this is no longer just a fight between your nations," he added.

Likewise, Gosar has lamented that numerous declarations have been made to the leaders to achieve peace, without success so far, when eight months have passed since the beginning of the invasion, when Russian troops entered Ukrainian territory on February 24.

"Peace must prevail, but for now it doesn't seem like an option. So I invite you both to Phoenix, where we can begin talks to begin de-escalation of nuclear tensions, end the war, and end death." and destruction.
