Biden announces his intention to make his first visit to the border with Mexico

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has announced this Wednesday that he is organizing a visit to the US border with Mexico, in what would be his first visit to the place since he assumed the presidential mandate.

Biden, when asked by reporters whether he will visit the border when he travels next week to the North American Leaders Summit in Mexico City, has indicated that this is his "intention." "We are working on the details now", he has added, indicating that he is going "to see what happens" at the border.

The US president has indicated that the information regarding the trip will be made public this Thursday, after delivering a speech on border security, as reported by the White House.

This visit, if it finally takes place, occurs in the midst of a migration crisis that is "straining the system," as acknowledged by the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, as reported by CNN.

"We are operating within a system that is fundamentally broken. Nobody disagrees with that. It just seems like we can't agree on a solution," he said, referring to the end of Title 42, a Trump-era border policy. which allows the Administration to deny migrants the opportunity to request asylum for health reasons, without an individual evaluation.

The US Supreme Court ruled at the end of December that Title 42 would remain in effect until the legal dispute in all states was over. Biden specified that while this border policy is "overdue," it must be implemented for now.
