Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of shooting on the border and Yerevan denounces "disinformation" from Baku

The Government of Azerbaijan has accused Armenia this Friday of firing at its positions near the border, although Yerevan has charged Baku for "continuing to spread disinformation", after the ceasefire reached on September 15 after their last clashes.

The Azeri Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement published on its website that "during the night of November 3-4, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in positions in the direction of Azizli and Yujari, used weapons of various calibers during five hours against Azeri Army positions in Yellija and Mollabayramli".

"Azerbaijani Army units located in these directions adopted adequate response measures," he stressed, without commenting on possible casualties.

Immediately afterwards, the Armenian Ministry of Defense accused Baku of "continuing to spread disinformation" and stressed that the Armenian Army "has not opened fire on Azeri combat positions in the eastern part of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan".

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a ceasefire on September 15 and in early October they agreed to commit to the UN Charter and the Alma Ata Declaration of 1991, through which both countries recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the other. . After that, the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinián, stressed before Parliament that he hopes that the peace treaty with Azerbaijan will be signed before the end of the year.

Both countries have staged various clashes in recent years over control of Nagorno-Karabakh, a territory with a majority Armenian population that has been the focus of conflict since it decided to separate in 1988 from the Azerbaijan region integrated into the Soviet Union.
