Australia's Ministry of Health apologizes after mistakenly notifying thousands of people that they had COVID-19

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Australian Ministry of Health has apologized on Tuesday after notifying thousands of people informing them that they had tested positive for coronavirus carried out on some occasions more than a year ago.

Thousands of residents of the Australian state of New South Wales have received a notification from the regional health department that they have been notified of having contracted COVID-19, a data that was out of date, as reported by the Sky News Australia chain.

"NSW Health Message: You have tested positive for COVID-19. Your test date is: 01-01-2022," read one of the messages sent on Monday, February 20.

The message was accompanied by more information on how to manage COVID-19, including risk factors and symptoms to take into account, according to the aforementioned media.

The Health department later sent a message urging recipients to "ignore the message" if they had not recently tested positive for COVID-19, apologizing to those affected and justifying the message with a "technical error."

"NSW Health sent you a text today to inform you that you have tested positive for COVID. If you have not tested positive for COVID in the last few days, please ignore the message as it was sent due to a technical error," the text read.
