At least 10 dead and three wounded in an Al Shabaab attack in Mogadishu, Somalia

The Government of Somalia announced on Tuesday that at least ten civilians have been killed and another three injured in an attack carried out by the armed group Al Shabaab in the country's capital, Somalia.

The Somali Ministry of Information has indicated that security forces have put an end to an attack on civilian homes that began at 3:00 p.m. local time.

"The attack (...) against the houses of civilians shows the desperate situation (...) Their passage shows how they are leading the Somali people, which will force us all to double our efforts to destroy the enemy," it reads. a statement from the ministerial portfolio.

For its part, the armed organization has claimed more than 70 deaths in its incursion into a supposed "government headquarters" where officials would have met "secretly," according to Rita Katz, director of SITE Intelligence Group, an organization specialized in monitoring terrorist groups.

Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
