Argentina summons the British ambassador to protest military exercises in the Malvinas

MADRID, 8 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Argentine Foreign Ministry has summoned the UK ambassador to the country, Kirsty Hayes, this Thursday to protest a series of military exercises carried out near the Malvinas Islands.

In a statement, the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, has expressed his "forceful rejection" of the idea of "introducing new military actors" in the Malvinas, statements with which he has alluded to the possible presence of soldiers from Kosovo.

Thus, he has referred to the information about the dispatch of Kosovar soldiers in the framework of a "peace support operation in accordance with an agreement signed with the United Kingdom on the incorporation of personnel from the Kosovo Security Forces into its Army of infantry in Malvinas".

That is why he has summoned the ambassador to "transmit to her the deep rejection of the Argentine Government" and to remember that Malvinas is "an integral part of the Argentine territory illegitimately occupied by the United Kingdom."

Likewise, he specified that the Malvinas secretary, Guillermo Carmona, has delivered a protest note to the ambassador to indicate that the British actions are an "unjustified demonstration of force".

In addition, they ensure that this implies "deliberate departure from the calls of numerous resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums that urge both Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume negotiations, in order to find a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute involving both countries in the Malvinas issue".
