53,000 people evacuated in Malaysia due to heavy rains

MADRID, 6 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Malaysian authorities have reported that more than 53,000 people have been evacuated by the floods that have caused heavy rains that hit much of the country.

The province of Johor, in the south of the country, is the most affected, for which 49,500 people -14,200 families- have to take refuge in some of the 270 temporary aid centers that have been established, reports 'The Straits Times' .

Neighboring Pahang has registered 3,000 affected people - around 850 families - while in Melaka there are 600 evacuees housed in six centers.

Despite the situation, the water has begun to recede in some areas and cleanup work has begun, allowing some families to return to their homes.

However, there are currently more than 40 roads, from eight districts, closed to all vehicles due to the impossibility of moving on them.
