The family of Gregorio Ordóñez asks the AN judge to continue investigating the ETA leadership for his murder

They request that the investigation be extended, at least, until July 2023 to carry out the pending proceedings

MADRID, 21 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The widow and son of the PP councilor Gregorio Ordóñez, murdered on January 23, 1995 in San Sebastián, have asked the National Court judge investigating the alleged participation of the ETA leadership in his death to extend the investigation for another six more months.

In a letter from last Monday, to which Europa Press has had access, Ana Iríbar and Javier Ordóñez ask the person in charge of the Central Court of Instruction Number 1, Alejandro Abascal, to extend the investigation, at least, until next July 29, 2023 so that "the pending procedures and those whose need results from the previous ones" are carried out.

The Ordóñez family, which exercises the private prosecution in this case, makes this request "sufficiently in advance", since the investigation period in the case will end on January 29, 2023.

The National Court has already condemned Juan Ramón Carasatorre, nicknamed 'Jon' and 'Zapata', Javier García Gaztelu, 'Txapote', and Valentín Lasarte as the material authors of the attack committed against the Basque councilor, who was shot when he was having lunch in a bar in the capital of San Sebastián with the then secretary of the Popular Group, María San Gil, and two other collaborators.

The investigation of this attack was resumed in 2015, when the facts were close to prescribing, at the request of a complaint filed by Consuelo Ordóñez, sister of the murdered councilor and current president of the Collective of Victims of Terrorism (Covite), to identify and judge the 'masterminds' of this crime.

The equally former head of ETA Mikel Albisu, alias 'Mikel Antza', testified before Abascal on December 21, 2021 by videoconference from Donosti to deny his participation in the events and attribute the evidence against him to alleged torture of Basque prisoners.

For his part, Ignacio Gracia Arregui, alias 'Iñaki de Rentería', refused to testify before the National Court judge on February 21. The former head of ETA only spoke to deny his involvement as the mastermind in the murder of the councilor.

The other three alleged masterminds are currently beyond the reach of the National Court, pending France's response to the European arrest and surrender orders requested so that they may be investigated for these events.
