The interim president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Rafael Mozo, has sent this Wednesday to the president of the Constitutional Court (TC), Pedro González-Trevijano the certification of the agreement approved yesterday Tuesday by the extraordinary plenary session, together with the curriculum of the designated candidates, magistrates César Tolosa and María Luisa Segoviano.

This was reported this morning by the governing body of the judges after yesterday it chose the two magistrates that it is responsible for designating to comply with the partial reform of the TC.

Yesterday, Tuesday night, the Constitutional Court warned that González-Trevijano -after having discussed it with the vice president of the court-- had agreed that he would convene a Government Plenary "immediately" to carry out the process of verifying the suitability of the magistrates appointed by the Government and by the CGPJ once the appointment agreement adopted by the governing body of judges is received at the headquarters of the TC.

That the Constitutional meeting meet in said Government Plenary is the first step to examine the suitability and verify the requirements that the four candidates must meet: the magistrate of the National Court and former Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo; the former director general of the Ministry of the Presidency Laura Díez; Supreme Court (TS) magistrate César Tolosa and retired TS magistrate María Luisa Segoviano.

According to the Organic Law of the Constitutional Court (LOTC), its members must be Spanish citizens who are magistrates, prosecutors, lawyers, university professors or public officials, "all of them jurists of recognized competence with more than 15 years of professional practice or active in the respective function.

After receiving the approval of the court in said Government Plenary, the new entrants will swear or promise the position before King Felipe VI, who is responsible for appointing them, for a period of nine years. Concluded this protocol act, they will be able to take possession in the TC.

The four magistrates appointed by the Government and the CGPJ will replace the president of the TC, Pedro González-Trevijano; its vice president, Juan Antonio Xiol; and the magistrates Antonio Narváez and Santiago Martínez-Vares, who make up the third that the Constitution commissions to renew the Government and CGPJ.
