MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Barcelona City Council has asked the National Court to summon the former deputy of Convergencia i Unió Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida as a witness to testify in the trial to be held for the alleged irregular financing of the training itself.

In a letter, to which Europa Press has had access, the consistory asks the court for the ex-leader's statement to account for some statements he made last November on a television program in relation, precisely, to the alleged illegal financing of the match.

"If I were before a judge and there was an oath in my statement, I would have to tell the truth. Now, I better shut up and that's it," said Durán i Lleida in the interview, collected in the letter provided by the Catalan capital's City Council.

Thus, and "in view of the fact that Durán i Lleida seems to refer to the fact that he might have knowledge of facts that could affect the procedural object of the aforementioned procedure", the consistory "deems it appropriate to request the testimony of the same for the act of oral trial".

It was last November when Judge Santiago Pedraz sent the political formation PdeCAT, its predecessor, the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia, and its former treasurers Germà Gordó, Daniel Osácar and Andreu Viloca to trial for the so-called '3% case', the structure set up supposedly to finance the party illegally through public works tenders.

In an order, the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 5 agreed to open an oral trial for a total of 30 individuals, including politicians, businessmen and officials from different administrations and public institutions in Catalonia.
