Justice rectifies an "error" that led to counting a field trip expense of about 2,900 euros in more than 250,000

The Ministry of Justice has issued a statement this Wednesday in which it clarifies that an "administrative error" in the information that the Undersecretary of Justice provided to the Transparency Portal on the travel expenses of the now former minister Juan Carlos Campo caused a cost that in reality it was 2,877.33 euros to be recorded as 253,187.61 euros.

"Today, February 15, 2023, the Resolution of February 2, 2023, of the Undersecretary of Justice, which admitted the request for access to information on the expenses corresponding to travel, accommodation and maintenance of the Minister of Justice, has been rectified. , Juan Carlos Campo, and the delegation that accompanied him", reported the department headed by Pilar Llop.

The error was reflected in the item of expenses related to the trip to Cádiz and Jerez de la Frontera that Campo made together with an "official delegation" of the Ministry of Justice between December 22 and 27, 2020 to attend the presentation of the Chair of Notarial Law at the University of Cádiz.

Justice explains that in that item "there is an erroneous expense in travel of 253,187.61 euros." "This amount is incorrect, due to an administrative error. The real expense was 2,877.33 euros for the trip," he says.

It details that on this trip, Campo was accompanied by his escorts and the staff of the Ministry of Justice, with the total cost of the delegation's trip being 4,059.8 euros, broken down into 2,877.33 for displacement, 764.15 for accommodation and 418.32 for maintenance.

It also stresses that "Campo did not incur accommodation expenses at the expense of the Ministry of Justice on his trip to Cádiz", so those 764.15 euros are accommodation costs for the delegation.

However, it indicates that "the liquidation and payment of the expenses for the displacements or trips made by the person in charge of the department, due to his position, include all the expenses made by the official delegation that usually accompanies him, formed in all cases by the official escort and, where appropriate, by personnel from his cabinet". "Therefore, the total amounts of an official trip are not entirely attributable to expenses made by the head of the department," he emphasizes.

Justice points out that, "once the error was detected, the corresponding administrative certificates have been uploaded in the Transparency Portal and the applicant has been officially notified of the correction of the error."
