Justice lawyers estimate 146,000 hearings and trials suspended due to the indefinite strike

They estimate the participation of the 16th day of the strike at 76%, while the Ministry speaks of 26.79%

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Lawyers of the Administration of Justice (LAJ) estimate that a total of 146,000 hearings and trials have been suspended -19,000 only in the Community of Madrid-, due to the indefinite strike that began on January 24 to demand better wages .

The Progressive Union of Lawyers of the Administration of Justice (UPSJ), the Independent Association of Lawyers (AinLAJ) and the Illustrious National College of Lawyers have issued a statement on Tuesday where they estimate the monitoring of the indefinite strike during this day at 76% , while the Ministry of Justice speaks of 26.79%.

This is a slightly higher turnout compared to Monday, when the strike committee estimated 74%. On the other hand, the department headed by Pilar Llop appreciates an increase compared to the 26.21% registered on February 13.

In the more than two weeks that the indefinite strike has been going on, the LAJ have registered maximums of 85% and minimums of 73%; On the other hand, the Ministry has notified between 33.92% and 18.9% of follow-up.

According to the estimates of the three LAJ associations, since last January 24 some 146,000 trials and hearings have been suspended, while in Madrid the figure is 19,000. "The majority of the Supreme Court is still on strike and the general registry is closed," said the statement from the strike committee.

In addition, it ensures that there are 530 million euros pending delivery as a result of the strike. "Behind each number there is a citizen who is being harmed by the inexperience of the Ministry of Justice. The delay in calling a meeting means almost 55,000 more trials," he underlined.

Within the framework of the statement, they have regretted that "to date" they have not sent them, in view of Thursday's meeting, the "agenda, identity of those appearing for Justice and the Treasury and technical documentation that, it is evident, the committee will have to study to assess the seriousness of the Ministry's offer".

Thus, it welcomes the fact that the Community of Madrid Prosecutor's Office has reported in favor of adopting the precautionary measure requested by the Lawyers of the Administration of Justice (LAJ) to temporarily paralyze the instruction issued by the court until the appeal is resolved. Ministry of Justice on the regime for the enjoyment of permits during the days of strike. "We understand that they should leave it without effect without waiting for the judicial ruling," he claims to Llop's department.

The indefinite strike reaches its 16th day as a result of the conflict that has its origin in "the lack of salary adaptation to the greater functions and responsibilities attributed by Law 13/2009, discharged to judges, and increased in successive reforms", especially that of 2015, which -- they denounce -- has caused an "unbearable imbalance".

The conveners point out as a "trigger" of the conflict the agreement that Justice signed in December 2021 with the unions of the general bodies "without properly developing the salary adjustment to the latest procedural reforms provided for in the second paragraph of Additional Provision 157 of the Law 11/2020 of the General State Budget for 2021".

Before the strike began, Llop asked the strike committee to avoid "maximalist positions" because they prevented "good agreements". For his part, the Secretary of State for Justice, Antonio 'Tontxu' Rodríguez, assured that the LAJ strike was a "political" measure and that it was "out of place".

Rodríguez stressed that "any type of economic claim that takes place in this strike does not make sense", since the Ministry "has complied with all the agreements" reached with the representation of these workers.

On the sidelines, the director of the cabinet of the Presidency of the Government, Óscar López, told the LAJ that they are "an essential piece" of the Judiciary and expressed his "confidence" that the negotiations with the Ministry "can conclude in a reasonable agreement and satisfying."
