Internal Affairs offers to appear in person to ten cases investigated by Villarejo in the framework of his work for BBVA

Cospedal's husband rules out taking action despite having stated "initially that he was going to appear"

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Internal Affairs unit of the National Police has offered ten people who were allegedly investigated by CENYT, José Manuel Villarejo's business group, the possibility of appearing in the case that is being investigated in the National Court and which focuses on the alleged illegal commissions that the now retired commissioner would have carried out when he was active.

In an official letter, to which Europa Press has had access, Internal Affairs informs the head of the Central Investigating Court Number 6, Manuel García Castellón, that it has managed to carry out the proceedings to offer shares to ten people who have been informed of the investigations of separate piece number 9, focused on the alleged work that Villarejo would have carried out for BBVA.

It was last July when the instructor agreed to officiate at the Internal Affairs Unit to make an offer of shares to 67 people who could be "possibly harmed or offended or victims of an act constituting a criminal offence." Of the total, only 10 people have been informed of the possibility of exercising actions.

The magistrate explained in an order that this offer sought "to be able to determine the interest of BBVA as a legal person, or of its employees, in a personal capacity, to entrust the work to CENYT -the Villarejo business group-- on said persons".

In its official letter, Internal Affairs has detailed that at least five of the people who have tried to locate appear in the police files as deceased. On the other hand, 21 of the identities provided have not been identified or there is no data to be able to be cited.

A total of 33 people, the researchers explain, "have stated that they were not interested in the possibility of appearing in the case or of being informed through the process of offering shares" or "they have not been able to be contacted to be able to" in dependencies of Internal Affairs "and carry out the corresponding actions to offer shares."

Among these people is Ignacio López del Hierro, husband of the former general secretary of the PP and former minister María Dolores de Cospedal. "Initially he stated that he was going to appear at the Police Department, although he did not appear," explains Internal Affairs in his letter.

In this piece of the so-called 'Villarejo case', the head of the Central Investigating Court Number 6 examines BBVA's contracts with the Villarejo business group, CENYT, for different projects --presumably illegal-- between at least 2004 and 2017, some work for which the entity would have paid the commissioner more than 10 million euros.
