Ciudadanos urges the Government to promote the equalization of the remuneration scales for the actions carried out in the ex officio shift so that "the amounts paid are the same for the same work regardless of the territory where they have been carried out".
To this end, the 'orange' formation has presented a non-legal proposal to the Congress of Deputies which, as it has defended, aims to "promote all the necessary actions in order to dignify the conditions in which the Assistance Service is provided Free Legal".
In the initiative, to which Europa Press has had access, Ciudadanos recalls that said service is provided by 46,000 lawyers attached to the ex officio shift. And he stresses that "one of the elements that causes the most indignation among the lawyers who provide this public service is the difference in pay between the public defenders of the common territory and those of the autonomous communities with powers of Justice."
The text, signed by the deputy spokesman for the Parliamentary Group, Edmundo Bal, gives as an example that "in 2021 the Basque Country was the community that best paid public defenders, with an average of 311.3 euros per matter, while lawyers from Castilla y León (depending on the Ministry) received 158 euros or Andalucía, one of the worst paid, which paid 106.4 euros".
From Ciudadanos they consider that this situation is due to the fact that "each community establishes its scales and updates the amounts in a discretionary manner, without there being essential coordination on the part of the Ministry of Justice which, in turn, does not pay the same to the lawyers of all the autonomies of the common territory".
In line, the training stresses that another of the demands of the lawyers of the ex officio shift is the updating of the scale "so that the legal actions covered by free legal assistance are expanded."
