Zelensky urges Russia not to have nuclear weapons

MADRID, 28 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky urged the UN Security Council on Tuesday that Russia cannot have nuclear weapons, claiming that it does not guarantee the security of the entire world.

At an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council convened on the occasion of the referendum organized in the eastern regions of Ukraine, Zelensky pointed out that nuclear weapons have become "a constant narrative" of Russian officials and propagandists.

"Threats to use nuclear weapons have become a constant narrative of Russian officials and propagandists. This shows that Russia has no right to possess nuclear weapons as it cannot guarantee the security of the world," the Ukrainian president said, according to has collected the Ukrinform agency.

In this sense, the president of Ukraine has emphasized that the Kremlin would have ignored the calls of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the emptying of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

Still, Zelensky has called on the international community to deprive Russia of its permanent membership in the UN Security Council and exclude it from all international organizations.

Recalling his speech last week before the United Nations General Assembly, the Ukrainian president recalled that "there is only one way to stop" the war in Ukraine, which is to carry out a "complete isolation of Russia in response to everything what he does", reported the Unian agency.

"Russia must be excluded from all international organizations. If such exclusion is procedurally complicated, its participation must be suspended," Zelensky added.
