Zelensky calls for Ukraine's "accelerated" entry into NATO

MADRID, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has announced that he will formally request the country's entry into NATO, assuming that it is already "de facto" part of an Alliance that is theoretically obliged to respond as a bloc to any aggression against a member state.

Zelenski has explained in a speech that he wants it to be an "accelerated" process. In his opinion, Ukraine has already shown that it is fully compatible with the standards set by NATO for its enlargement, after months of mutual collaboration.

The Ukrainian president made the announcement shortly after his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, signed the annexation treaties for four military-occupied regions in eastern Ukraine.
