Vox takes to Congress its proposal to organize a referendum on energy policy

The initiative also claims to lower bills and favor nuclear energy

MADRID, 5 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Vox has presented an initiative in Congress to put to a vote its proposal to submit public policies on energy to a referendum so that Spaniards decide between what the formation calls "opposing models", one of "dependence "energy" and another "sovereignty".

The proposal has been included in the motion derived from the interpellation that this Wednesday addressed to the third vice president, Teresa Ribera. Her vote is calculated for the last week of November in the plenary session of Congress.

They argue that Spain has the possibility of producing "most" of the energy required by national demand, but the policies developed in recent decades by Spanish governments have followed what Vox calls "climate fanaticism" and have "multiplied " Spain's energy dependence on other countries, which "in many cases are totalitarian regimes".

Given the current situation, the party believes "it is evident" the "need to put at the service of the Spanish all the resources available in the country, material, technological and human, to reduce energy dependence and its" negative effects on the prosperity of the nation". All this, yes, "always in the best economic conditions and care and conservation of the natural environment".

Abascal has already challenged the president, Pedro Sánchez, to call a referendum on the issue in mid-September, before which the chief executive accused Vox of denying the climate crisis.

In addition to the public consultation, which would have to be carried out under article 92 of the Constitution, those of Santiago Abascal ask to adopt "as many measures as necessary" to reduce energy bills, including in any case the promotion of regulatory reforms that are necessary to reduce taxes on energy.

The initiative also asks to send to the General Courts a bill that repeals the prohibitions on exploration, research and exploitation of energy resources that are found in national territory and that, on the contrary, stimulates and encourages them.

Finally, the text claims to promote nuclear energy, favoring the extension of the useful life of existing plants and the installation of new ones and supporting its inclusion in the taxonomy of the European Union (EU).
