Unions and freelancers celebrate the RETA agreement and hope that it will have "broad" parliamentary support

MADRID, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The union organizations UGT and CCOO and those of self-employed workers UPTA and UATAE have concluded the agreement for the reform of the self-employed contribution system that will be approved this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers and have expressed that they hope it will have "broad support at the parliamentary level.

In a joint statement, the four organizations have underlined the "total support" that this agreement has received from the different social agents and have pointed out the importance of the agreed text being approved in its entirety, since it will allow carrying out a "structural, fundamental and necessary" reform of the self-employed contribution system.

This agreement has the approval of the unions and self-employed organizations, but also of the employers' representatives such as CEOE, Cepyme and ATA.

In the statement signed by the self-employed and unions, it is highlighted that the new system allows self-employed workers to contribute "progressively" in relation to their real income, thus allowing those with lower incomes to reduce their quota and progressively increase it for those who have higher real incomes.

"This agreement significantly reduces the enormous regressiveness of the Special Regime for the Self-Employed (RETA), thus ending a historical anomaly and contrary to any criterion of equity," they pointed out.

In addition, they have mentioned the importance of continuing to advance in the coming months to finish defining the concept of "real income" that will be the one that the Treasury must take into account to set the contribution base and the progressive inclusion of improvements in aspects of social protection. for freelancers.
