Two Russian and one Ukrainian citizens arrested after entering a military factory in Albania

MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Albanian Ministry of Defense has reported that two soldiers have been injured when they arrested two Russian citizens and one Ukrainian, suspected of espionage, who were trying to enter a military equipment factory.

The event occurred around 5:40 p.m. (local time), when the guard who was guarding a military plant in the town of Gramsh noticed "suspicious movements" around the facilities, for which he informed his superior, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defending.

The suspect, who attempted to flee after spraying the two officers in the eyes, was later taken into custody. Meanwhile, the Albanian police services blocked the vehicle of a woman and a man who were accompanying the first suspect.

"Police services made it possible to locate and block in the vicinity of this area the Chevrolet-type vehicle in which the 33-year-old Russian citizen and the 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen were traveling," explained this Saturday night the Ministry of Albanian defense.

The country's prime minister, Edi Rama, has said on his official Twitter profile that he is proud of the military guards "who neutralized the three espionage suspects." "Prompt recovery for the injured and now let's wait for the full disclosure of this event," he added.

The Albanian authorities have notified the Russian Embassy in Tirana of the event and have demanded detailed information about the Russian citizens who have tried to forcefully enter the perimeter guarded by military guards, according to the newspaper 'Dita'.
