The PSOE maintains that it does not decriminalize any form of embezzlement and "hardens" the treatment of the corrupt

Alegría is surprised by the position of Unidas Podemos that "say yes, but do not sign what they vote for"

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesperson for the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE and Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Pilar Alegría, has maintained this Monday that the Government is not going to decriminalize any type of embezzlement, with the legal reforms that it is promoting and on the contrary it is "hardening "The persecution of the corrupt with the creation of a new criminal figure for diversion of the irregular budget.

This has been transferred in the press conference that has been held at the party headquarters on Ferraz street where he has defended that the transactional amendment that the PSOE is going to present to modify one of ERC.

In this way, he has indicated that with the text of the PSOE there is no doubt that "any type of embezzlement is not decriminalized" and, on the contrary, a new figure of "irregular budget deviation" is created, which punishes misuse of public money when it is used for uses other than those originally intended, he added.

The persecution of the corrupt is hardened and, in addition, the two red lines that the PSOE had established are not crossed, as he has stated. "In no case is this party going to support anything that involves any benefit for any accused or convicted of corruption," he pointed out.

"Also, that we understood that any improper irregular use of public funds should be punishable by the Penal Code," he added. For Alegría, with this transaction and with the decisions made by the Government and the party, "both objectives have been more than met."

On the other hand, the spokesperson has been asked if they have the guarantee that the application of this new law will not have an effect comparable to that of the "only yes is yes" law, which has led to reductions in sentences and the release of convicted of sexual offences, and could lead to lower sentences.

In this regard, Alegría has affirmed that when they transfer a law or a transactional amendment as in this case, they do so "with all the guarantees."

In addition, regarding the reduction of sentences that these modifications of the Criminal Code entail, he has denied that this occurs. "There is no reduction, what there is is a difference between what is corruption, of the irregular budget deviation", he has transferred, "where the money remains in the same administration".

Regarding whether she believes that the PSOE voters will understand these measures, she has been convinced that they understand and share "the commitment" of the Government and the Prime Minister for transparency and the fight against corruption, as indicated before reiterating the PSOE's position: "With the transaction that this party has presented, no form of embezzlement is decriminalized, the treatment of the corrupt is also hardened."

On the other hand, regarding the accelerated terms of this reform, Pilar Alegría has pointed out that "hurry is little" when it comes to "continue fighting for transparency, democratic hygiene and against corruption".

Along the same lines as what Pedro Sánchez shared this weekend at an event in Barcelona, the socialist spokesperson has indicated that they intend to "return to the debate on politics what belongs to politics and remove it from the field of the courts" as well as continue betting on coexistence "something first in politics", in his opinion.

On the other hand, regarding the position expressed by Unidas Podemos, which disassociates itself from the amendment to reform embezzlement and will not sign the compromise amendment, although it will not prevent it from going ahead, Alegría is surprised by that "yes, but I do not sign what vote", as he has described it. Therefore, he thinks that it is the purple ones who have to give more explanations about their position.

Finally, he has accused the PP and its president Alberto Núñez Feijóo of being "in exaggeration, insult and hyperbole" for their reaction to the Government's announcement to modify these crimes. He has also disfigured the 'popular' leader who questions the "legitimacy" of Sánchez as head of the Executive.

Thus, he has indicated that the PP is anchored in a position of "hyperventilation" and that in the seven months that he has been in charge of the main opposition party he has not presented "a single serious line" that responds to the problems of the citizenry.

At this point, he has suggested that the PP has a "hidden program" that it does not want to tell the Spanish. "I'm talking about a hidden program because I remember when the PP told us that it was going to make a clear proposal to lower taxes and yet the first measure was to raise more than 50" taxes, he stated.

He also thinks that the PP is no longer interested in talking about the economy, employment or pensions, what in his opinion are the problems of the citizenry, but rather that they prefer "to dabble in the politics of tension", it is over.
