The president of Asturias assumes that the railway delays will harm him electorally on 28-M

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Asturias, Adrián Barbón, has recognized that the delays of some infrastructures, such as the Pajares variant or the error of the trains that affect the Principality and Cantabria, may take their toll on him in the regional elections on May 28, although assumes it "if it is in favor of the safety of Asturian citizens".

This was stated by Barbón during his speech at an informative breakfast of the Nueva Economía Fórum, when asked specifically about the new delays in the Pajares bypass. In this context, the Asturian president believes that at the end of March or in the month of April the opening date of this variant will be known.

In any case, Barbón would celebrate that this opening took place even before the elections on May 28. "May 27 would have been a wonderful date," the Asturian president ironized, explaining that these new delays have occurred for security reasons.

For this reason, he has proclaimed that he aspires to "sleep peacefully" in politics: "If by accelerating a month we put the lives of Asturians at risk, I would not sleep peacefully. It has harmed me electorally but I assume it if it is in favor of the security of the Asturians".

Regarding the meeting that he himself and the president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, will hold with the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, for the errors of the trains, Barbón thanked the minister for her "reaction" of "show face" by agreeing to hold this meeting.

Likewise, he has valued this common front with Miguel Ángel Revilla in this meeting, where in addition to asking for responsibilities to be cleared up and giving specific deadlines, they will also jointly demand free commuter trains in both territories until 2026.

On this point, he has also charged against the previous government of Mariano Rajoy, and more specifically against his Minister of Public Works, Íñigo de la Serna, who he has said was "unique" as "promising", but "no euro was ever executed ".

The Asturian president also explained during this informative forum in Madrid the mess that occurred last Friday during the appearance of the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Reyes Maroto, on European aid to Arcelor Mittal and the leak of the 'popular' candidate ' in Asturias, Diego Canga.

As Barbón explained, Minister Reyes Maroto informed him that the aid for Arcelor Mittal was going to be announced that same day, but that nothing could be said during the appearance because in the European Union "it feels very bad" that it be said before time.

In this regard, the Asturian president explained that he had a prepared intervention in which he asked to speed up the bureaucratic procedures so that this aid could be announced as soon as possible, but that, after the minister's revelation, he finally decided not to comment on anything.

However, Barbón explained that the minister tried to divert attention from this aid, while Canga, "the candidate imposed by Madrid", used "his contacts to leak confidential information.
