The party says that, "despite the excuses that the Government has made", Feijóo wants to visit the Spanish soldiers deployed there

MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Popular Party has called on the Ministry of Defense this Wednesday to set a date for the visit of the president of its formation, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to the military troops deployed in Latvia after the head of the Department, Margarita Robles, has justified the rejection of that trip as it coincided with the development of some maneuvers.

Specifically, the director of Feijóo's cabinet, Marta Varela, has sent a letter to her counterpart in the Ministry, Juan José García de la Cruz, in which she reminds him of "the telephone conversations they have had in recent days, where he reported that Feijóo's displacement to the military base in Latvia would be in accordance with the dates indicated by the Defense", according to the PP in a statement.

"As a consequence of the foregoing, I thank you for clarifying in your response which would be the most convenient so that we can share them with the Latvian Prime Minister to close a definitive agenda", indicated the director of the Cabinet in the letter.

The PP urges the Defense that, if there were other reasons other than those expressed by the minister, communicate them in order to know them, as indicated by the formation, which concludes the letter by recalling that the Armed Forces do not belong to the Government but to all Spaniards , "so it does not seem reasonable to prevent the leader of the opposition from simply going to recognize and thank the troops for their work."

The PP has indicated that "partisan" would be to "prohibit" this trip by Feijóo. "Despite the excuses that the Government has made, we want to visit the Spanish troops in Latvia," the formation said in a message on its official Twitter account.

This morning, Minister Robles has accused the Popular Party of wanting to make "partisan" use of the Armed Forces and has reproached Feijóo for not having spoken to her directly about the visit she intended to make to the Spanish contingent deployed in Latvia.

The leader of the PP has later responded to Robles that the "partisan" thing is to "prohibit" his visit to the troops deployed in Latvia and has stressed that the Armed Forces (FAS) "are not from the Government but from the Spanish". In addition, he has assured that if he arrives in Moncloa and is president of the Government "he will not limit the opposition leader from going to thank the work of the troops" from Spain "anywhere in the world."
