The Minister of Finance defends the "fundamental role" of Irene Montero in Equality and calls for unity in feminism

The Minister of Finance and 'number two' of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, has supported the "fundamental role" of Irene Montero and the Ministry of Equality "in pursuit of the advancement of women", and has advocated for the unity of the feminist movement .

This was expressed by the person in charge of the Treasury, in statements collected by Europa Press within the framework of the Congress of the Socialist International that is being held in Madrid, in relation to the 25N demonstration that, with the presence of PSOE ministers, called for the resignation of the head of Equality in the midst of the controversy over the reduction of sentences in the context of the 'only yes is yes' law.

"Probably the most important successful policy of the feminist movement is unity, the ability to identify where the real obstacles that prevent women from moving forward are," María Jesús Montero stressed when questioned about the participation of the Vice President of the Government, Nadia Calviño ; the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, and the Minister of Industry, Reyes Maroto, in the aforementioned mobilization.

In this sense, he has stressed that "what the PSOE and all the parties that support the Government pursue is that the unit presides over relations between women", since, in addition, there are "too many problems outside to be establishing and emphasizing different sensibilities".

"Therefore, I advocate the unity of the feminist movement, it is what we have to pursue", insisted the Minister of Finance, who also urged "to be aware" that equality policies always encounter "obstacles and resistance", that it is necessary to identify to "remove".

On the law of 'only yes is yes', he has specified that the Executive continues working on its objectives to reinforce the protection of women, and regarding the reduction of sentences, he has trusted that the Supreme Court will rule "within a few a few days", after the different positions of the Prosecutor's Office and the Provincial Court.

Lastly, María Jesús Montero reiterated her "absolute confidence" that women and the feminist movement will focus "where it really needs to be done."
