The Government rejects "hypotheses" about the possible pardon of Griñán: That would be "advancing many screens"

MADRID, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, has refused this Tuesday to make "hypotheses" about the possibility that the Executive pardons the former president of the Junta de Andalucía José Antonio Griñán, whose conviction for the ERE case -along with the one imposed on the also former president Manuel Chaves-- the Supreme Court has just confirmed, and has appealed to the need to act with "rigor", emphasizing that speculating on a possible measure of grace would be "advancing many screens".

In the press conference after the Council of Ministers, Rodríguez showed the Executive's respect for all judicial resolutions and stressed that, in this specific case, only the Supreme Court ruling is known, but not the content of the sentence, its legal grounds or whether or not there will be dissenting votes.

"We cannot rule on hypotheses," she indicated, when asked about the possibility of pardoning the former president of the PSOE, who has been sentenced, among other penalties, to six years in prison for corruption offenses. The minister spokesperson has pointed out that these matters have to be dealt with "rigorously".

"It is not advisable to venture into hypotheses; at this time it is a lot of screens to advance," he added, recalling that "many prior procedures are necessary to start the request" for the measure of grace by the convicted.

That yes, when asked if the Executive understands that since there is no personal enrichment on the part of Chaves and Griñán there is no corruption, Rodríguez has highlighted that "all the judicial pronouncements" that have been made up to now "conclude" that this was the case in the case of the former Andalusian presidents.
