The Emeritus Kings, invited to the funeral of Elizabeth II as well as the former queen of the Netherlands and the former Belgian king

MADRID, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The British Royal House has taken into account the particularity of the situation in other European ruling houses when sending its invitations for the funeral of Elizabeth II and, given the close relations between all of them, has decided to invite those who once reigned but they are no longer on the throne.

This circumstance has led to the invitation of both the current heads of state of Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark, as well as the former ones, as well as their respective spouses and, in the Danish case, the crown prince.

As a result of this, as reported by Zarzuela, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía have been invited to the funeral and the parallel events scheduled to bid farewell to the queen of England for seven decades. For now, the Emeritus Kings have not informed the King's House of their "personal decision" to attend or not.

In the same circumstance as the parents of Felipe VI are the former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, who abdicated in April 2013 in favor of her son, King William. In his case, it is to be expected that the current monarch will attend with Queen Máxima and her mother.

The same happens in the case of Belgium, where London has sent an invitation to King Felipe and Queen Matilde, but also to Albert II, who abdicated in July 2013, and to his wife, Paola.

Finally, in the case of Denmark, since Queen Margrethe II does not have a consort after the death of her husband, Prince Consort Henry, Crown Prince Frederick has also been invited.

It so happens that the Danish monarch has celebrated this weekend the 50th anniversary of her arrival to the throne, although the acts were lowered as a sign of respect for the death of Elizabeth II. They have been present King Haakon of Norway and King Carl Gustav of Sweden, who will also be in London next Monday.
