The dissolutions of companies in the first half of the year amounted to 17,804 cases, which is 12% more than in the same period of the previous year, while insolvency proceedings remained stable compared to a year earlier, with a slight increase in 0.28%, up to 3,192 procedures, according to the 'Study on Bankruptcy and Dissolution' prepared by Informa D

In the month of June alone, dissolutions reached 2,210, 12% more than last year but 2% less than in May. However, in the case of contests, these increased by 10% in June compared to the previous month and 21% compared to the same month last year.

"With the end of the insolvency moratorium decreed by the Government, a sharp increase in insolvency proceedings is expected", explained the director of studies at Informa D

On the other hand, the number of companies that present the joint request for insolvency and extinction, known as express insolvency, has been growing. 2020 ended with 54%, in 2021 it reached 65% on average and during the first six months of 2022 it has not fallen below 65.5%, reaching close to 70% in June, the second highest figure since this indicator began to be followed in May 2019.

Hospitality is the sector that performs best in the semester, reducing 157 competitions compared to the previous year. Their figures also fell during these six months, although to a lesser extent, in the sectors of other services, which cut the number of competitions by 8.5%, education (-21%), business services (-8%), Industry ( -2%), and Administration (-1%).

On the contrary, contests in the commerce sector increased by 20% compared to last year, registering 753 processes in the first semester. It is followed by construction and real estate activities, with 626, a 10% increase, and, despite its drop, hospitality, with 390.

Dissolutions since January decreased in the sectors of extractive industries, which fell by 19%, industry, (-2%), Administration (-67%), Hospitality (-4%), Health (-3%), and other services (-4%). On the contrary, construction and real estate activities, with 4,087, commerce, with 3,274, and business services, with 2,511, lead the dissolution processes, accounting for 58% of the total between the three.

By region, Catalonia is the community with the most bankruptcy proceedings in the first six months of the year, representing 27% of all bankruptcy proceedings registered in the semester, although it fell by 3% year-on-year. It is followed by Madrid, with 655 processes, and the Valencian Community, with 495.

Regarding dissolutions, Madrid leads the figures both in the first semester, with 4,918, 28% of the total, and in June, with 718. After it, Andalusia and Valencia, with 2,346 and 1,966 in the accumulated and 309 and 229 in the month, respectively. In this case, only Asturias, Ceuta, Melilla, Galicia and the Balearic Islands recorded fewer processes since January.
