Super typhoon 'Noru' leaves at least five rescuers dead in the Philippines

MADRID, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At least five members of the rescue teams have died as a result of super typhoon 'Noru', known in the Philippines as 'Karding', on Sunday night.

The governor of Bulacán, Daniel Fernando, explained to GMA News in an interview that five personnel from the Provincial Office for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (PDRRMO) were swept away by the water while carrying out rescue operations.

According to Fernando, the rescuers used a boat after their truck broke down on the way to their mission. Due to a flash flood, a wall collapsed and hit them.

A report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) published on Monday morning indicates that 643 people have been affected by 'Noru', of which 590 are in evacuation centers.

In addition, twelve localities have suffered power outages, several domestic flights have been canceled and classes in educational centers have been suspended.

The report of the state meteorological office (PAGASA) has informed that in the last hours the degree of danger has decreased from 3 to 2, as the typhoon moved away from Luzon.
