MADRID, 28 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and his American counterpart, Joe Biden, have underlined the need for permanent cooperation to deal with irregular immigration in North Africa.

According to the joint statement agreed by both countries after the meeting of just over an hour that the two leaders have held this Tuesday in La Moncloa. Spain and the United States recognize "the importance of permanent cooperation in response to the challenges of irregular migration in the North African region."

In addition, both countries have left in writing their intention to collaborate in a comprehensive approach to the management of irregular migratory flows "that guarantees fair and humane treatment of migrants," the text states.

In this sense, the two countries have agreed to coordinate efforts to address the fundamental causes of irregular migration and work to strengthen legal channels with special emphasis on the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
