Six civilians killed in a new attack in northern Burkina Faso

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

At least six civilians were killed between Saturday and Sunday in a new attack carried out by armed men in the commune of Bourzanga, located in northern Burkina Faso, according to the Burkina Faso state news agency, AIB.

"The attackers looted the Alga gold panning site, took motorcycles and food, and set fire to shops when they arrived on Saturday at around 6:00 p.m. (local time). Sadly, four people were killed. This Sunday morning around 6:00 a.m. (local time), they returned and killed two people in Boulounga," sources cited by the state agency have indicated, adding that the victims resided in Alga and Boulounga.

The commune of Bourzanga, located in the province of the Center-North region, has been the scene of an uptick in attacks by jihadist groups in recent months, which has caused the closure of all schools in the area.

The attacks, the work of both the Al Qaeda branch and the Islamic State branch in the region, have also contributed to increasing inter-community violence and have caused self-defense groups to flourish, to which the Burkinabe government has added 'volunteers ' to help in the fight against terrorism.
