Russia rules out new gas supply cuts to other countries

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian Government has assured that gas has already been cut off to all countries that have not agreed to pay for the supply in rubles, so no new disconnections are expected, such as those already suffered by Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, the Netherlands and Denmark.

"Those countries that receive the gas are already operating according to the new system," Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said, referring to the protocol established in early April by Russian President Vladimir Putin to penalize governments considered " hostile," reports the TASS agency.

The procedure establishes that international clients must open special accounts in the Gazprombank, one for payments in foreign currency and another for conversations in rubles, from which the final payment to the Gazprom company would start. The European Commission has concluded that abiding by this system does not imply violating EU sanctions, since the initial payment is made in euros or dollars.
