He is committed to continuing to talk about coordination in fires, but believes that there are "more urgent issues" for a Conference of Presidents

MADRID / SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, July 28 (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, this Thursday asked the chief executive, Pedro Sánchez, to mobilize aid as soon as possible for the fires that have devastated this territory in recent times. At the same time, he has charged against the "unfortunate statements" of the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, about the intervention of the UME, although he has not taken the hint when they speak of communities "that have not done their homework."

In the press conference after the meeting he held with Sánchez at the Palacio de La Moncloa, Rueda specified that "he does not want to mark the legal formula" for Sánchez to undertake this aid, although he does see it as convenient and necessary for him to declare Catastrophic Zone to be able to expedite aid.

Regarding the request made by his counterpart from Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to convene a Conference of Presidents to address the situation of the fires, Rueda admits that he thinks it's "good" to talk about this issue that "greatly worries the citizenship".

However, he believes that "there are much more urgent issues" to call a Conference of Presidents, "without denying the importance of the fires."

Likewise, the president of the Xunta de Galicia has criticized in his initial speech the declarations of the Defense Minister, in which he charges against the autonomous communities that "have not done their homework" and then ask the UME for help.

"I have asked Sánchez to try to move the political debate away from an issue as serious as the issue of fires, I told him that the Defense Minister's statements are unfortunate," said Rueda.

In this context, he has defended that when the UME arrives in a territory "preliminary work has already been carried out for months" and, precisely, this emergency unit is used because "it is needed".

In any case, when asked if he has taken the hint in the face of these statements by the minister, Rueda has indicated that he has not, but that "there are fires in all the autonomous communities."

"This statement bothers me, it is unnecessary, when resources are requested it is because they are needed and the UME is a resource for all Spaniards and these types of statements are out of place", the president of the Xunta has sentenced.
