Robles warns that the embezzlement reform cannot affect those convicted of corruption or illicit enrichment

MADRID, 9 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has warned this Friday that any reform of the crime of embezzlement in the Criminal Code must have two "red lines": not affect those convicted of corruption and that public officials cannot have illicit enrichment.

After a visit to logistics facilities and the Army laboratory, Robles has assured that he does not know the terms of the amendment presented by ERC in Congress to modify the crime of embezzlement.

In any case, he has insisted that the Government's commitment is "clear and unequivocal" so that there is "zero tolerance" for corruption. "There is not going to be any type of condescension towards behaviors that could imply a misuse of public funds for profit", she has guaranteed.

For this reason, it has ruled out any modification that could mean a "setback" against corruption or that could "favor people convicted of corruption." "That cannot be changed in any case because corruption must be subject to a sanction and a clear and forceful sanction," she insisted.

In this debate, Robles has previously defended the reform of the crime of embezzlement because he believes that "the criminal reproach cannot be the same for those who enrich themselves as other actions that in no case lead to enrichment."
