Ribera points out that the European response to the energy crisis cannot put Spain's plans at risk

MADRID, 12 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Third Vice President and Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, has pointed out that any agreed response within the European Union to the energy crisis cannot jeopardize Spain's decarbonisation path.

Speaking to the press upon his arrival at an informal meeting of EU energy ministers in Prague, Ribera advanced that this is going to be one of the main issues to be discussed at this meeting, due to the different positions held by the different Member states.

The minister specified that coverage must be guaranteed for the EU states that are going through a difficult time, but in no case at the cost of jeopardizing the path of transformation of countries, such as Spain, which have the conditions to continue that way.

"Currently there are two positions, coverage with flexibility in difficult times and allowing or not hindering the path in which those of us who can do it are immersed," added Ribera.

Previously, the Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, has reported that the European Commission will present next week a new package of measures to intervene in the energy market and contain the rise in prices, as well as to encourage the reduction of demand and facilitate joint gas purchases.
