Revenue from marina management grew by 10.3% in 2021, to 150 million euros

The aggregate turnover of the 33 main marina management companies increased by 10.3% in 2021 compared to the previous year, to 150 million euros, according to the DBK Informa Sector Observatory.

Of the total berths in Spain, it is estimated that 79% are operated by private companies through concession contracts, while the remaining 21% is managed directly by regional and port entities that own the ports. Likewise, the top ten private marina management companies concentrated in February 2022 together 13% of the total capacity of mooring points.

On the other hand, the demand for the sale and rental of fixed and transit moorings in marinas experienced a strong upturn in 2021, which translated into 100% occupancy in some of the Spanish marinas. Local tourism was one of the main factors in this growth, in addition to the end of mobility limitations or the closure of borders.

Regarding short-term forecasts, additional business growth is expected, in a scenario of greater presence of foreign tourists on the coasts and consolidation of sailing as a safe tourism option.

As of February 2022, there were a total of 292 marinas in Spain, with a capacity of 133,700 mooring points, of which 68% were located in Mediterranean ports, with the average number of moorings per port standing at 458 .

By region, Andalusia and Catalonia are the ones with the largest number of marinas, with 48 and 46 facilities in February 2022, respectively, followed by the Valencian Community (40) and the Balearic Islands (37).

In relation to moorings, Catalonia concentrates the largest number, with 29,664 on that date, followed by Andalusia (21,803) and the Balearic Islands (20,489). Adding the Valencian Community and Galicia, the first five communities jointly gather close to 78% of the total offer.
