Retail trade registered a 3.3% drop in sales in July compared to the same month of 2021, a rate 3.7 points lower than that of the previous month, when they rose 0.4%, as reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
With the data for July, retail trade sales return to negative year-on-year rates after three consecutive months of increases.
Eliminating seasonal and calendar effects, retail trade turnover fell by 0.5% year-on-year in July, also returning to negative rates after the increases registered in April, May and June.
As for employment, the sector recorded a year-on-year increase in employment of 2.4% in July, two tenths less than in June. With this rebound, employment in retail trade has already accumulated 15 consecutive months of year-on-year increases.
