PSOE, Podemos and ERC knock down in Congress the resources of PP, Vox and Cs against the change of election of the TC

The PSOE, Unidas Podemos and ERC have rejected this Monday at the Table of the Justice Commission of Congress the appeals presented by PP and Ciudadanos against the amendments registered by the government parties to lower the requirements for the renewal of the Constitutional Court, a matter that Vox also has appealed.

Taking advantage of their bill to suppress the crime of sedition, the PSOE and Unidas Podemos registered two amendments introducing a series of legal changes aimed at unblocking the renewal of the Constitutional Court.

On the one hand, and to avoid the boycott of the conservative members of the General Council of the Judiciary, they lower the majority required in the CGPJ to designate the two candidates for the TC that correspond to the institution. But they also threaten the members who block with criminal liability and introduce guarantees so that the Government can name its two candidates (the former minister Juan Carlos Campo and the former Moncloa minister Laura Díez), without waiting for the CGPJ.

And, to avoid reluctance from the TC about those government candidates, another amendment prevents the guarantee court from examining the candidates proposed by the other institutions.

All these amendments, together with the embezzlement reform presented by ERC, were registered last Friday and the PP, Vox and Ciudadanos presented separate letters asking for their inadmissibility, considering that a reform of this magnitude, which affects organic laws such as those of the Judiciary and TC, cannot be approved via amendment without allowing it to be studied by advisory bodies and violating the rights of opposition parties.

But this Monday the writings have been rejected at the Justice Commission Table thanks to the majority that make up the PSOE, Unidas Podemos and ERC -which add up to three votes compared to the two of the PP-, with which the amendments have moved forward for discussion in the paper.

The rejection of these writings brings the three opposition parties closer to filing separate appeals for amparo before the Constitutional Court.
