PP, Junts, Vox, UPN and Cs present a veto in the Senate to the reform of the Penal Code pending the decision of the TC

55 partial amendments have been presented, from PP, Junts, Ciudadanos and Más Madrid

The PP, Junts, Vox, UPN and Ciudadanos have registered vetoes in the Senate --a total amendment-- to the reform of the Penal Code, which repeals the crime of sedition and changes the crime of embezzlement, pending the ruling of the Court Constitutional on the appeal of the PP to paralyze its processing.

The period to present vetoes and partial amendments has ended at 2:00 p.m. this Monday and these are the five parties that have decided to request the return of this bill to the Government, while Más Madrid has proposed a change and UPN and Vox have decided not to table any partial amendments.

In the case of PP, Vox, UPN and Ciudadanos, they agree to reproach the Government of Pedro Sánchez for the substance and form of this bill, charging against the repeal of the crime of sedition, the reduction of penalties for embezzlement, the change in the Constitutional Court and for the express reform that means that this rule is in the Senate for just six days.

For his part, Junts makes a statement of reasons in which he also criticizes ERC, because they believe that with this agreement to reform the Criminal Code, the Republicans are assuming that the 2017 referendum "was a criminal act."

In the case of the PP veto, those of Alberto Núñez Feijóo insist on their reasons for demanding the withdrawal of this rule and call the reform of the Constitutional Court an "inadmissible offense against the Spanish people and the Transition Pact".

"Legislating in fraud of the law and against the criteria of the lawyers of Congress, who warned of the illegality of some amendments, is nonsense, an attempt to liquidate the rule of law, which we will never admit and which will be the basis of the resources that The Popular Group will present before the Constitutional Court", anticipates the PP in its veto.

For its part, Ciudadanos disdains the motives of the Executive of Pedro Sánchez to reform these crimes to improve the relationship with Catalonia, recalling that the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Pere Aragonés, has declared that "this penal reform is going to make it more difficult to prosecute independence".

"It is a mockery to talk about this reduction in inflammation when all those convicted have not renounced unilateralism and have declared that they will try again," criticizes the senator of Ciudadanos, Miguel Sánchez, in his veto.

IT WILL GO INTO THE ANNALS OF PARLIAMENTARISM

Meanwhile, the three Vox senators have alleged "substantive and formal reasons" to present this veto because, as they articulate in their letter, "it is one of the most inadmissible outrages in the annals of Spanish parliamentarianism."

In relation to the reform of the TC, Vox believes that this "anticipates a perverse situation": "To know that said body validates all the violations of the constitutional order, with serious threats against national unity included, which undoubtedly the socialist and communist members of the Executive, together with their separatist partners, intend to carry out".

In any case, 55 partial amendments to this reform of the Criminal Code have also been presented, which have been raised by the PP, Junts, Ciudadanos and Más Madrid.

The one that has presented the most partial amendments has been the formation chaired by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, with 25, while Junts has registered 16, Ciudadanos, 13, and Más Madrid one.
