Podemos reiterates its criticism of the PSOE for sending weapons: "The escalation of the war has not stopped Putin"

Along with IU, he insists on turning to diplomatic channels to achieve a peace agreement

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Podemos has reaffirmed its opposition to sending arms to the war in Ukraine and has once again demanded that the PSOE rectify its position, given that the "war escalation has not stopped" Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The leader of the purple formation, Alejandra Jacinto, and the federal spokesperson for the IU, Sira Rego, have defended this Monday in separate press conferences that the solution to this war conflict, on the eve of its one-year anniversary, goes through a halt to fire and a peace agreement negotiated through diplomatic channels.

The message comes days after the leader of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, demanded that the PSOE reconsider its position on the shipment of arms to Ukraine and admit that it is a mistake to contribute to the war escalation, warning that According to the military drift, there is "no guarantee" that Spanish soldiers will not end up being sent to the conflict in the future.

Jacinto has proclaimed that Ukraine is "farther from peace" than a year ago and has charged against the war escalation "fuelled" by the EU, through a shipment of arms that Podemos rejected from the beginning.

In this sense, they have once again condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and demand that Putin's troops leave the country, but they are convinced that to achieve this a ceasefire and diplomacy are needed for a peace agreement, as advocated by their party and the presidents of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and Argentina, Alberto Fernández.

"The most difficult option is to bet on peace but it is the only way," Jacinto has insisted to settle that "thousands of lives late" will be reached on this path.

Meanwhile, Rego has condemned the Russian invasion that "violates international law" and has generated thousands of victims, as well as millions of displaced people fleeing the conflict, in short "a lot of human suffering."

Like Podemos, the IU has vindicated the search for peace through diplomatic means to, with an "urgent" nature, promote a ceasefire.
